“Day’s lessons are now terminated” announced SCENIC, the Scholarly Content Encryption Network Intensive Curriculum; robotic and hollow.


The boy closes his computer. “Papa, tell me again” he begs.


His father starts. “Well, imagine a large building with separate rooms, chairs, tables. The children gather and there is noise, laughter and misbehaviour. Suddenly, a bell rings. The children run outside to an open field where they throw a circular object back and forth, catching and tossing.”


“Oh, how splendid” says the boy. “Promise me, Papa.”


He strokes his son’s pale skin. “Sleep now, and I promise to tell you again tomorrow.”
